Just trying to get started with Coldfusion MX7
:o
Hello I am new to Cold Fusion and started with the tutorials. I started with
the first one with the art, and got all the way to the part
when you need to setup the database, but have run into an error at the RDS
login!
It says the server name or address could not be resolved
1. The URL maybe incorrect http://127.0.0.1:8500/cfide/gettingstarted/tutorial
2. Test server maybe configured incorrectly.
Please help me out I am confused since when I set up the page and it ask to
test server, it tests ok???
Thanks in advance!!!

Phil,
Posting your question over and over isn't going to get it answered any
quicker. What it may accomplish is to piss off the regular posters on this
forum that _could_ help you.
I appreciate that you want to learn and are frustrated. Are you sure you've
followed all the instructions? step by step? I can't help you because I don't
run Windows, but if you're patient I'm sure someone will chime in with some
help.

Re: Just trying to get started with Coldfusion MX7
Phil's Custom,
We all appreciate your eagernes to learn CF (and you persistence ;-).
However, cross/multiple posting has the unfortunate side-effect of making it
more difficult for others (such as yourself) to get answers to their questions.
If (4) seperate people all spend time answering the same question in different
threads, (3) other people may not get answers to their questions. It also
increases the likelihood of abandoned posts, meaning that someone searching the
forums in the future, may find a thread with the right question, but no an
answer at all. Which, speaking from personal experience, is very frustrating.
In any case, it sounds like you're using Dreamweaver? Since not everyone here
uses Dreamweaver (I don't) it's best to give as much information as possible:
1) Are you able to log into the CF Administrator?
http://127.0.0.1:8500/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm
2) Did you install/enable RDS when you installed MX7?
3) Is this the tutorial you are using?
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=MX7+RDS+LOGIN+&hl=en. There seem to be a few
threads on for that phrase.

Re: Just trying to get started with Coldfusion MX7
:confused;
Sorry for the posts, I was frustrated at not being able to figure this out!
I am using Dreamweaver 8.
1. Yes I can Log-in
2. Yes I installed RDS & setup password
3. Yes I am at the tutorial "Connecting to Database"
4. I installed extensions
5. Got through the "Art" tutorial and now it wants to teach you how to set up
a database with Coldfusion
Went through step 1. Create site...ok!
2. Choose document type...ok!
3. Set up sites testing server.....ok!
4. Specify the RDS login....as soon as I
click this the eror comes up..."The server name or address could not
be resolved??? Coldfusion is running and
I am logged in!!
I am confused!

Re: Just trying to get started with Coldfusion MX7
Apparently you're not the only one who has experienced problems with the RDS
setup. A few threads mention this tech note. You might just want to check the
web.xml file for the RDS mapping information and make sure it is enabled.
