Default Keeping Animated gif"s after changes

I have downloaded some animated gifs and I would like to manipulate them but
when I make changes and save them, the animation ceases. I have a buddy icon
that has writting in the backround that I wanted to erase. I don't want to
change the animation or the object being animated just eliminate the
writing. I am very new to elements so don't know how to do this. any step by
    step information is best.

    thanks in advance.

You can't simply save changes to animations. Here's a few basics items.

    Always make sure to choose:

    1. Save for Web
    2. GIF
    3. Check "Animate" and "Tranpancy (if applicable).
    4. Set the animation settings near the bottom of the screen

This is done every time any changes are made. Straight saves will compress
the layers instead of treating them as frames.

BTW, to remove any information you'll have to click on each layer that
includes it. You can do this by selecting each layer from the "Layers
Pallette," then edit as needed. When finished, refer to my previous
    response for saving the animation.
