Default kernel panic/eth0: too much work in interrupt

    Hello,

I am using Redhat 8.0 on Dell P3. The PC is running multiple PPP connections
via wireless mobile modems. It would often frozen and the console display
shows "kernel panic: Aiee, killing Interrupt Handler", "In Interrupt
Handler: not syncing", "<4> eth0 too much work in interrupt, status e401".
The PPP connection is via USB ports.

    Any solution to the problem?

    Thanks,

    Simon

Is this a SMP box? Are you running the latest RH update kernel?

    Hello Michael,

    It isn't SMP box.
I am using the default kernel on Redhat 8.0, ie, 2.4.18-14. The problem also
happened on my 2.4.7-10 kernel (RH 7.2). According to the 3COM ethernet guy,
the problem is not ethernet driver.

    Thannks,

    Simon

Then upgrade to latest RH errata kernel first, something like 2.4.20-19*,
should be on upgrades.redhat.com. There have been rare stability problems
    mentioned in the RH errata.
