Keyboard shortcut for dingbats? - Adobe Indesign Windows

In using Quark I frequently use ctrl-shift Z to insert a single dingbat from the Zapf set. Does Indesign have a similar keyboard shortcut or must I always go through the glyph interface?...

You can make a script, but there may be a way that's even easier than QuarkXPress's. I used to like that one, but with so many dingbat fonts, and bullets in Expert sets, there's little use for a shortcut that applies to only one font.

Check out Nested Styles. If you're using Zapf Dingbats for a bullet, make a character style with only one attribute: that the Font is Zapf Dingbats. THen, set up a Paragraph Style with a Nested Style definition that Dingbats (or whatever you named your Character Style) is the first character. All other attributes are maintained, so making this sytle 12 pt black will make the ZD buillet 12 pt. black.

Also, if you're in InDesign CS2 and you're looking for this character for a bulleted list, the bullet character from any font can be included automatically in the Bullets and Numbering dialog box.
