    Default Keyboard shortcuts

I had a shock today when I activated the new Freehand MXa. Some of the keyoboard shortcuts are not working - The tools shortuts.

I press "Z" but the magnify doesn't work. Nor the rest of the shortcuts with letters only.

I have tried to assign them at Edit / Keyboard Preferences... but it wouldn't let me assign letters only.

    Please advise.

    Thank you.

I see the same thing on my Win2K machine, will check at home on Win XP
Pro tonight. Most toolbar buttons have no keyboard shortcut assigned and
the Keyboard Shortcut editing dialog won't let me enter single keys (A,
    V, Z, etc...)

I sure hope there is a workaround for this one, a pref we can delete or
change or something. This one is a very crippling bug.

Since I am on a mac maybe I am going to sound ridiculous but here goes...Have you tried going under Edit/keyboard shortcuts to set up how you would like for your keyboard commands to work (mine are set to FH8 preferences with a few extra for goo measure).

I am sure that there were people in the beta testing for this new application who use PC's and none of them were expressing a problem with this and I am sure that they would be is they lost all of their keyboard command functionality (thats a bit hard to overlook). I expect/pray that this is a preference issue with your keyboard set up.

    All,

I am looking into this issue now... So far it looks like a Windows only issue due to it working fin on the Mac OS.

I have tried changing to Illustrator Shortcuts, Freehand 10, etc. I even tried to set up new Single Letter ones, but it's not working.

I can't wait for a patch or something for this serious bug.

Thanks for looking into this John. FWIW, the issues are also present on
my Win XP Pro SP1 machine: single key shortcuts don't work and they
cannot be assigned to anything in the Keyboard Shortcut editing dialog,
only two keys or more shortcuts can (Shift-P for ex.).

    Hi John,

Thanks very much for being on top of things. The technote does not
mention the fact that the reason the normal tools shortcuts do not work
(A, V, P, etc) is that they are no longer present in the shortcut
definitions and that it is impossible to add them. If it was just that
they were missing it would be a minor annoyance but the Keyboard
Shortcuts dialog will not accept single key shortcuts so it's
    imposssible to get them back.

Spent half the day and activated half the studio to figure out what was wrong. We were all stumpped hoping there would be some help on this issue only to find out that it's a bug in the new MXa version. How can this be??? Man to think these shortcuts are the like the most basic of the shortcuts which must work.

By the way, am running Freehand on WinXP Pro - if hope this info will help somehow in coming up with a fix. so fro all you designers out there running on XP Pro, you are not alone. It's not you rsystem its just MXa ('a' might actually stand for 'annoyance')

No matter what MXa has fixed, we rather live with the bugs of MX than with the this one on MXa. It's almost as good as MXa not supporting the mouse! Cannot wait for the fix.

Any fix for this yet? This is a bug of epic proportions and is dramatically increasing development time. About ready to abandon FH.

I would suggest that anyone interested in getting this fixed go an make their wishes known at the Macromedia bug site. Reporting this bug in the users forum is only going to get you bupkiss. Of course, it might garner you some sympathy perhaps, but in the real world thats still just bupkiss.

    good luck

Anyone know the keyboard shortcut for bullet points in Freehand 10 on a Mac?
    Robaire Guest

    Default Re: keyboard shortcuts

Most Mac fonts produce a bullet when you type Option-8. If the font in use
has a bullet in its character set, this is the keystroke that accesses it.
It's not specific to FreeHand and should work in any program. To find
keystrokes for all the characters in a particular font: In OS9 or below, go
Apple Menu > Key Caps and push various modifier keys to see what each key
produces. In OSX, go Applications > Utilities > Key Caps and do the same
(choose the font you wish from the Font menu while in Key Caps). You can
click the green "maximize" button to make the keyboard larger for better
    readability.

Character shortcuts change with keyboard layouts. Option-8 is the bullet
character shortcut for most fonts when using one of the English language
    keyboard layouts.

In Mac OS X Panther, 'Key Caps' is replaced by 'Keyboard Viewer'. Full
instructions for finding and using it here:

Does anyone know if there is a PC keyboard shortcut for creating bullets using freehand?

You can try the standard Windows keystrokes: hold down the Alt key and type
0149 on the numeric keypad. If you're in a font that has a standardly-mapped
bullet character, that should produce it. After that, you can highlight the
bullet and Ctrl-C to copy it to the clipboard then insert your cursor and
Ctrl-V to paste it wherever else you need one.
