language of exported field
I need to export data from Japanese Windows & Filemaker, then import it in
English Windows & Filemaker.
I'd like to use FM as the export file format. However when I do this the
fields of the export file are flagged as Japanese (I can see this if I open
the exported file in Japanese Filemaker), and the file cannot be opened by
English Filemaker. This happens despite these facts:
1. In the export setup, I have specified English encoding (English Windows,
English DOS, of English Lotus, they all produce the same problem).
2. The text fields (including calcs) in the original file are all marked as
English (in the field storage options). I have no problem if I copy the
original file over to an English machine. English Filemaker can open it.
I can make the export/import process work if I export to a text file instead
of an fp5. But it's so handy just lining up the fieldnames with fp5s, that
I thought I'd ask if anyone knew a way to make it work. Thanks.
