Large PDF Attachments getting corrupted
I have two machines. On the Windows 2000 with office 2000 I can email huge adobe files from outlook -no problem. On my WinXP box with Office XP - large Adobe files (1 meg and up) get partially corrupted and I get the "Too few operands"- or "Missing Token" Errors. On the Windows 2000 machine I can cut and paste into Frontpage 2000 and the pdf's will be good. On the WinXP box - the same file pasted into Frontpage 2000 onto a web page will be corrupted. Any suggestions? I have tried everything so far - but there must be a solution since others do not have the same problem. I have all the service packs loaded.

Re: Large PDF Attachments getting corrupted
Could be related to Outlook or Frontpage on the XP machine. Be sure that the transmission is set for binary (particularly in e-mail clients). Transmitting PDFs as text is the typical source of corruption. When folks FTP to a server, they sometimes set the transfer as text rather than binary which is another source of the problem on a server.

Outlook XP does not give many options - I have the mail format set to "Compose in HTML" - is this the only place that this is set? Jeff

Re: Large PDF Attachments getting corrupted
There is not way to set "binary" in Outlook or any other email client. That doesn't even really make sense.
Your best bet is to zip the file(s) before sending. It usually reduces file size, too.

But my windows 2000 machines sends them fine. Are you saying this is a flaw in the software somewhere? I can't upload zip files to the website. Jeff

Re: Large PDF Attachments getting corrupted
If you wish, then instead of binary I should have said 8-bit. My use of binary was related to FTP transmission to a server. To get 8-bit transmission in email (which includes binary files) you have to encode the file since e-mail is generally sent in a 7-bit format. I do agree that ZIP files are the most reliable method in general, but many folks still prefer to get them in PDF form. My email client and many others allow the setting to be for MIME encoding (I think this is what Outlook typically uses also, but am not sure). Some packages, will default to including the text and not encode if the file appears to be ASCII. This appearance is where the problem occurs. For PDFs, I have to force MIME in my client.
Jeff, I am not sure where the encoding option is located in Outlook - typically under options in MS products. You can always use ZIP as suggested, but I was trying to look at the comparison between 2 machines as you asked.

Re: Large PDF Attachments getting corrupted
Thanks - here is an interesting twist. It is only large files that get the problem. Small ones are ok - so can that still be an encoding issue?
