    Default layers in same place

I want to have two layers that are located in the same place on the page, with
text links below them to allow the user to switch back and forth between them.
the links work fine, but whichever layer appears below the other one in the
code will not appear in the correct place on the page. instead it shifts to
the next line and appears left of where it should be. i am trying to float the
layers (right) and have tried changing the z-index level and everything else i
can think of. can anyone give any suggestions?
    thanks in advance

What's the position property of your elements? Should be'absolute'.
