LC575 won't boot from CD - Mac Applications & Software

I know this is a blast from the past, but I have an old LC 575 that I acquired earlier this year and keep in operation for my daughter. The hard drive has recently developed some problems and so, for the first time, I tried to get it to boot from the CD ROM drive (my limited research seems to indicate that you hold down the C key after the startup chime to boot from CD-ROM). Default LC575 won't boot from CD

I know this is a blast from the past, but I have an old LC 575 that I
acquired earlier this year and keep in operation for my daughter. The
hard drive has recently developed some problems and so, for the first
time, I tried to get it to boot from the CD ROM drive (my limited
research seems to indicate that you hold down the C key after the
startup chime to boot from CD-ROM). No matter what I do, I can't get it
to start up from the OS 8 CD that I got with the system. Instead, I get
a "sad mac" screen. Here's some extra information that I hope might help:

    sad mac codes:
    0000000F
    00000001
internal CDROM drive, SCSI ID 5
currently running OS 8 on the hard drive
disk first aid says that the hard drive needs to be repaired

    Recommendations?

Yuck. Sorry for the lack of line breaks in the original posting.

Although that particular Sad Mac error is usually the result of a
software problem (corrupt system file, mainly), this would be most
unlikely with the system file on the OS CD if the 575 has an Apple
    CD-ROM drive.

I thought that the LC 575 did not come with a CD-ROM drive (except the
Performa 575). Have you been able to boot from the OS 8 CD in the
    past?
If the CD-ROM is a non-Apple drive, the drivers won't be on the OS 8
CD. If it is a a non-Apple drive, you could download the 7.5 "Network
Assist" disk and try to boot from a floppy. If, that is, you have a Mac
with a floppy drive which you can use to download.

If you have Disk Warrior or Norton, you could try to boot from the CD
    from either of these.

You might also try the following key combination to
bypass the hard drive at startup:

    COMMAND-OPTION-SHIFT-DELETE
