Default lck files

I'm trying to connect to a folder at the root level on the server, which also
uses another folder at the same level. Lets call them folder 1 and folder 2.
The pages that I need to change or work with are in folder 1. After making the
connection the program starts to download all the files from folder 1 and
folder 2 locking all files. Why is this happening and how can I prevent it.
Eventually the program locks up or takes forever to copy all the files. After
all this I have to delete all lck files and connections.

LCK files are for locking the files when multiple people are using the site so
that they don;t over write each other's stuff.

If you are the only person working on the site go ahead and get rid of them. I
know I have to go in once in a while and get rid of .LCK files that are left
after files are moved or deleted. For some reason they seem to accumulate.

..LCK files are left behind when you edit a page in Contribute and then go ahead
and remove/modify the page using an external app like ftp client etc.

Apart from that .LCK files are removed by Contribute when you publish the page
using Contribute !! Removing the .LCK file should always allow you to edit the
page again... This is kind of workflow followed by Contribute to disallow more
than one user from editing the same page..

I understand about the lck files, but why is Contribute downloading additional
files that are not being edited and locking them also? There are hundreds of
them. Why isn?t Contribute removing the files after the page is published?

Is it downloading all the files that are associated with that one page you are trying to edit, like CSS sheets, graphics, includes, etc...
What exactly is it downloading?

Yes, it seems to be downloading or copying all files associated with the page
including css, photos, html files and any other page that has a link to another
page and all files associated with it. All the files downloaded remain locked.

Contribute does create a local copy of css, templates to give a WYSIWYG feel
while editing pages. But it does not lock them. Never experienced this scenario
before.

Can you share more info on this ? Perhaps sending a private message would be a
good idea !!

Did you find a solution to the problem? One of my users is experiencing the
same thing. She now has hundreds of .lck files in her folders, all of them
files that are not in the correct spot and that she didn't open for editing.
She can't publish or cancel or send for review. Doing anything at all makes
Contribute lock up. We're dead in the water until a solution can be found.

To reproduce the problem in our test machines and nail down the issue, can you
please provide me the following information:

? Your website URL
? The type of webserver used (for example : Microsoft IIS Web Server, Apache
Web Server etc)
? The connection type used to connect to webserver (LAN/FTP/SFTP/WebDAV)
? The user id and password used to connect to webserver.

You can send me a private mail to dmichael@adobe.com. Your site details will
be kept confidential.

I am having the same problem. In my case the content from our old site is
being copied and pasted into new .aspx pages created with Contribute. The
content contains links to our old site and the path is no longer valid so the
links need to be updated. Publishing a page with the copy and pasted content
in some case causes all the images and pages to which links go to (the old htm
files) to appear as LCK files. Hundreds of LCK files appear which brings
Contribute to its knees. I am still hunting for a solution.
