Leading - Adobe Indesign Windows

EMERGENCY!!! I am having major frustrations with leading. I am working on a catalog and have all the text for the different pieces saved as word files so I just "place" the text. I am using paragraph and character styles to format. My problem is I need to go smaller than the default leading. It will let me go larger, but it won't let me mak it smaller. I have tried changing the leading in the control bar and the styles but it won't go smaller than a certain point... which is NOT COOL!!! Please help ASAP!!!! I am pulling ...

Look at your character styles. One of them may be applied to the text in the paragraph, and it may be demanding a leading amount. If so, edit the character style to blank out the leading value.

Of course, you know to 4-click to select a whole paragraph, including any invisible characters like the hard return pilcrow at the end.

You probably also already know that you can alt click apply the paragraph style to drive off any direct formatting. And alt shift apply the paragraph style to drive away any character styles inadvertently applied to the paragraph.

Okay, I figured it out. Necessity is the mother of invention, huh? The problem was I had a style attached to the text box itself and I was changing the text in the box. I didn't know about the alt click though... Thanx for that and your quick reply!
