Learning Sockets the Cocoa Way? - Mac Programming

I want to learn, using Cocoa functions, to do the following (in psuedo-code): if(connect ("my.mailserver.com")) { read_from_socket(); } print_error ("connection time-out); I know there are various frameworks and such for sockets, but I want to learn the basics. I think there is a Core Foundation function like ConnectToSocketNameAddress, but there are not example calls. Thanks. Ed...

Default Learning Sockets the Cocoa Way?

I want to learn, using Cocoa functions, to do the following (in

    It's a complicated topic. Use a framework. :-)

If you want to learn BSD sockets, try here:
<http://makeashorterlink.com/?H54A240E6>. Even if you use a framework,
it's good to know what's going on underneath the hood.

    A good simple framework: <http://smallsockets.sourceforge.net/>

Have a look at the NSHost and NSStream classes.
