lenses on ebay with fungus - Photography

hi all, just thought i'd share some experiences with you. last two auctions i've won on ebay were for nikon lenses that were advertised in excellent condition but on close inpection contained a spot of fungus (or some other blemish) internally. both sellers had good positive feedbak too!! be very wary of lenses where the seller claims to be unavailable for inspection of the lens pre auction or refuses to do so. i wa going to bid on another lens but the seller isn't going to be around till after the auction ends, main reason i wanted to make contact ...

Default lenses on ebay with fungus

    hi all,

just thought i'd share some experiences with you.

last two auctions i've won on ebay were for nikon lenses that were
advertised in excellent condition but on close inpection contained a
spot of fungus (or some other blemish) internally. both sellers had
    good positive feedbak too!!

be very wary of lenses where the seller claims to be unavailable for
inspection of the lens pre auction or refuses to do so.

i wa going to bid on another lens but the seller isn't going to be
around till after the auction ends, main reason i wanted to make
contact with the seller was to determine whether the auctioned lens
was one that i'd previously seen advertised elsewhere which i
subsequently found to have a flaw in one of the rear elements.

there is not way of determining whether the glass is clear from a
photo, i was given photos of clear glass (on a lit background), the
blemishes were visible only at certain angles and were refuted by the
    sellers.

i've been bitten unfortunately, hopefully someone can benefit from my
    negative experiences.

Not all seller has sharp eyes like you do.
[Happened to me :) Slight fungus turned out to be covered with fungus :D ]

Anyway if you have too many bad experience, find buyers that lived quite
near and ask for pick up.
If the item is NOT AS described, you can always cancel your purchase.
[I believe seller must be as critical as possible re. their items]
Or if not, buy from a shop :)
Pay a bit more, but you get some guarantee.

    Actually...
Buying from a shop (such as Teds in Brisbane) is quite often cheaper than on
    E-bay.
