Less Drag-n-Drop in OSX? - Mac Applications & Software

Call me a bonehead if there was an announcement about this a couple years ago, but does it seem like very few OSX apps support drag-n-drop? I refer only to apps where text can be highlighted....

Drag-n-drop between & within applications is much more widespread
in OS X (10.2.x, at least) than in OS 9 & earlier. Or at least so a
short play on my machine here indicates. [2 apps didn't support it:
Acrobat Reader & the Finder; over a dozen did.]

After you highlight the text and click it with
the mouse, keep the mouse button down for a
second or two. Then start dragging - I think
you'll find plenty of d&d available.

To drag something in OS X, it is often necessary to click and hold on it
for a moment before starting to drag it. I suppose this is the price we
pay for the fact that OS X allows us to click on buttons, icons, and
such without selecting them or bringing their windows or applications to
the front. (For example, you can drag something in Finder's column view
    without selecting it.)

Also, selected text can be dragged in many applications, such as
TextEdit, even when the pointer is an I-beam rather than an arrow.

Whew. That I-beam business was driving me nuts.

Okay, so, click and hoooooooooooold! (Then drag.) ;-)

Drag and Drop works just fine in OS X - just like previous OS versions.
There have been a few issues with DnD and clipboard transfers between
Classic and OS X applications. Since I'm no longer using any Classic
applications I don't know if that issue has been completely fixed or
    not.
