Default Ligatures not displayed on postscript printer

I have a problem with printing a pdf-document on a postscript printer with Adobe Acrobat 6.0.0. Ligatures ("fi" and "fl") are printed as a question mark "?".

When I convert the pdf-file to a ps-file using "Save as" in Adobe Acrobat, the ps-file is displayed correctly. Shouldn't the same ps-file that was "saved as" be sent to the printer? If not, why? Where are the properties hidden that I have to change? Is the problem with Acrobat or the printer settings?

    Best regards,
    Markus

erm might be handy to mention which PS printer/Rip you are using.

How do you display the PS file exactly?

It could be that your printer does not covnert the ps file correctly, maybe because it's a level 2 device and the ps file is level 3.
