    Default Linda' photomontage

I posted this under project vii because the question/answer dept sent me
there. Upon reflection I should be posting my question here. As an aside,
I found Linda R's photomontage beyond breathtaking and am having a mild
coronary trying to implement her tutorial using the prehistoric fw4. Hence
    the following question

Hi. I wanted to do the proj vii tutorial on photomontage and realized after
some minutes hunting around for some tools that the tutorial was mx based
rather than fw4. I guess they took off the earlier tutorials. does anyone
know of another online source that would cover this? many thanks. maria

    Hi Maria,

    The differences are as follows:

Fireworks 4 has no built in Fade command. To do the image fades, you
have to do them all from scratch. It's very easy, though.

To fade the images in Fireworks 4 it is necessary to drag a rectangle
over the image, and then add a black/white linear gradient to the
rectangle. The black part should be where you want the image to remain
opaque. The white part of the gradient should be where you want the
image to fade out. Once you've got that set up, open the Layers panel,
then press Shift & select the thumbnails for the image and the gradient
rectangle, and choose Modify > Mask > Group as mask.

If that doesn't sort things out for you, feel free to write to me off
list and I'll walk you through the tutorial in FW 4 as best I can.
