Lines from Illustrators in PDFs
When i print out a quark document, to a ps file, i often get a problem with lines from illustrator.
They will distill into VERY thin lines, that will barely print out due to the thin-ness. Or sometime thickness.
This doesnt happen if the lines are over a pt in thickness or something, but always happens to lines thinner than about a pt.
Anyone have any ideas how to avoid this? It doesnt happen if i export the quark file to a PDF, but unfortunatly PDF's made by exporting from quark are highly unreliable, and distilling is always much safer, bar this problem i seem to have.
It doesnt seem to matter what version of PDF i print it to, nor if i change the profile in distiller before making the pdf.

Re: Lines from Illustrators in PDFs
If you are in Acrobat Pro 7 once your PDF is done, you can fix the hairlines by going to the menubar and select: Tools > Print Production > Fix Hairlines. Hope this works for you.

Re: Lines from Illustrators in PDFs
As far as I know hairlines are a Quark thing (and should be avoided as they are device dependant) the higher the res of the output device the thinner the line or to that effect so to avoid this change the app defaults to set width. If your problem is with illustrator strokes in placed eps files then I would look at turning off the OPI XTension in Quark. It is possible to have this either on/off through print dialog box & export to pdf settings so check your settings.

Thanks! Turning off the OPI thing seems to have sorted out a recent job that keep going wrong. Hopefully that will sort out the problems on them all.

Other XT's to avoid if you can are Dejavu.xnt FontDownloadingXT.xnt FontRetrieveXT.xnt Vista.xnt ones to add are PDFBoxer.xnt & FontAlertSilencer.xnt as a rule of thumb.
