Lingo? non-beginner tutorials & books..
Hello,
I was wondering if anybody could suggest a good online non-beginner
Lingo/Director tutorial for experienced Java/Actionscript programmers.
Also, usully when I learn a new language I buy the relevent Oreilly book.
The current one is for Lingo in a Nutshell: for Director 5, 6 & 6.5?? From
what i've read on amazon, you guys give it good revews.. but isn't that
extremly old!.. am i missing something? Could someone suggest a good
reference book?

Re: Lingo? non-beginner tutorials & books..
there are several. I personally use director demystified which has
tutorials at verious levels and an excellent reference section. I have
lingo in a nutshell, but find myself looking to demystified more for
reference (maybe it's just cause i got used to that reference section
first) i also have advanced lingo programming for games, which is
pretty damn good, and director authorised, which compared to the
others is pretty much useless. I have also heard that dave mennenoh's
book is excellent (it's called director, the complete reference).
as for web resources there are several
www.mediamacros.com covers pretty much every area of director with
articles, tutorials behaviours and games open source projects
available for download
www.crackconspiracy.com/~davem dave mennenoh's site
www.updatestage.com contains links and descriptions for pretty much
every xtra availlable for director, as well as several articles and
tutorials within the director info section.
www.setpixel.com has some pretty interesting imaging lingo tutorials
http://www.theburrow.co.uk/d85/index.htm 3d demos and tutorials
http://www.fbe.unsw.edu.au/learning/director/ - dean utian's excellent
tutorial site for the university of new south wales
Finally, you mention that you use javascript. if you are at a fairly
advanced level then it may be worth taking a look at
www.openLingo.org, the site isn't up yet, but you can join the group
from there. The idea is to build a large archive of open source lingo
similar to what the perl community (and several others) have done.
apologies if i forgot any useful tutorial sites
hope this helps,
richie
