Linking large amounts of pages - Adobe Indesign Windows

I loved InDesign except for the fact that the program does not allow you to automatically link pages when first creating a doent. Sometimes we create doents that are 40 or more pages long and having to link each page is problematic. Is there a feature or addon that we do not know about? Thanks...

What are you referring to? If text, just shift click when placing it and
all the pages you need will be created and the text frames will be linked.

To elaborate on Bob's reply: there are two ways of doing this. You can use masterpage textframes or not. Everyone has his/her own preferences here.

If you don't use masterframes, when you Shift-click a place cursor on the first page, textframes will be made automatically. The place cursor will have the shape of the top part of a page. The 'bounds' of the resulting textframes will be the page margins.

If you use masterpage textframes, the same happens, but the text will flow into frames that are coupled to the masterpage textframes. You can adjust the size and other characteristics of all frames by changes those on the masterpages. The cursor will have the shape of two large ( ) with text lines in between.

One of the advantages of using masterpage textframes is that you can give the frame a script label, that will be inherited by all the frames on the live pages. This makes scripting easier.
