Linking object to text?
I have an odd little problem and can't seem to find an answer anywhere. In some of the texts I set in InDesign (I have 2.0 and no, my boss won't pay for an upgrade to CS) require diacritical marks (in languages like Polish or Czech) that are not available in the required typeface. I CAN get them by using the "insert glyphs" function, but have to place them manually.
If there are any edits, the text boxes with the glyphs are then in the wrong spots. Is there anything I can do to lock the glyph boxes to the specific letter in the text so I don't get them misplaced when editing?
Please, if you can answer, make your response as simple as possible; I have a brain injury that makes it easy for me to get confused with instructions and new information.
Thanks very much

Re: Linking object to text?
Why are you putting the glyphs in seperate text boxes? Put it next to the letter it has to be above or below, then do a baseline shift and some kerning to get it in place.

Re: Linking object to text?
Because I didn't know I could do this - I will try, but I'm not sure what a baseline shift is, though I do at least know what kerning is.
Could you give me a step by step?
Thank you.

Re: Linking object to text?
Sure, go to the character pallet (Ctrl+T on Windows) on the bottom left there is an icon with a uppercase A and next to it a lowercase a with an arrow below it, that's for baseline shift, two boxes above that is kerning.
When using baseline shift just select the diacratical mark and play around with the numbers until it looks high enough. Then select the diacratical mark and the letter and play around withthe kerning numbers until it looks right.
