Linux on Dell Precision 650 with SATA drives? - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

One of our users wants to buy one of these systems with SATA drives and run Linux on it. Unfortunately, Dell does not offer this configuration with a Linux distribution pre-installed yet because they claim they haven't tested Linux with SATA drives yet but they said it might just work if we install Linux on our own. They should: http://kerneltrap.org/node/view/1787 But I didn't know
Dell offered anything with Linux anymore. If you have purchased a
distribution, why not ask support there?

Don't blame you, but users always want the latest and greatest and
Linux must support that to remain viable.
