Liquify Filter is Broken!? Please Help.
Every time that I attempt to use the Liquify filter in Photoshop 7.0 it doesnt work properly. All that it does is make a square mirror image copy of the picture. I have tried everything: deinstalled all Adobe programs, then deleted all Adobe and Photoshop registry entries that I could find and also deleted the preferences file as was suggested in a prior post. All of these things have not worked thus far! Any help at all would be apperciated. P.S. I am suspecting that something in my registry got messed up , o yeah, i also tried to use system restore and that didnt work either.
heres my system info:
PIII 933mhz
Windows ME & all updates
Nvidia GeForce MX 420
Please help if you have even a hunch of an idea, I would not like to format my pc just to fix this problem! again thanks for any help!

Hmm...this seems to be becoming a big problem lately...
Did you recently upgrade your video card's drivers?
Best I can figure out about this from my personal experience, and another
guy's on this newsgroup... is that it's due to not having the most recent
DirectX version, and having the latest video drivers from Nvidia...I have
Nvidia Geforce2.
(Yes...I said *latest*. Seems they don't play nice wit the Liquify tool.)
My sugestion would be to make sure you have the latest version of Direct X.
DirectX Version: 9.0a (4.09.0000.0901)
(I had thought I WAS up to date with 9...but I wasn't...9A seems to be the
key.)...
And an OLDER version of your video drivers.
(maybe from you PC install discs or video card install CD...I got an older
version by going to Microsoft Windows Update...oddly enuff...I found an
older driver in their list of updates.)
I had tried again to install the newer Nvidia card driver after getting
DX9A...but STILL had the problem.
So...newer ISN'T always better it seems.
That's what worked for me.
Hope this helps.

square mirror image copy of the picture
Thats not broken its an option. You nead to read the help file how to use it correctly.
The warp tool pushes pixels forward as you drag.
The reflection tool copies pixels to the brush area. Drag to reflect the area perpendicular to the direction of the stroke (to the left of the stroke). Alt-drag (Windows) or Option-drag (Mac OS) to reflect the area in the direction opposite to that of the stroke (for example, the area above a downward stroke). Usually, Alt-dragging or Option-dragging gives better results when you have frozen the area you want to reflect. Use overlapping strokes to create an effect similar to a reflection in water.
Oh yeah update to 7.01 aswell.

Yeah...AND...?
Your point is...?
Win ME has nothing to do with it...it's the video card drivers.
Sheesh...there's one in every crowd...

na i dont think its an option causing the repeating block reflection thing, it does the same thing for both swirls and reflection ... it's just straight up broken!?? Holding shift ctrl or alt do nothing as well. I will get to the bottom of this if its the last thing i do... well i hope not actually the last but you know what i mean.

Re: Liquify Filter is Broken!? Please Help.
If turning down the video acceleration worked - then that indicates a bug in the video card driver.
Please tell your video card maker about this so they can fix the bug in their driver.
