little help please?
Hi all,
I've having a consistent problem in Illustrator CS ... it crashes! Every time I go into the printer box to change the paper type for my printer (Epson Stylus Colour 3000 going through Power RIP X) Illustrator pauses for about 5 seconds then crashes, I've copied the log below. I've tried trashing the prefs and repairing the permissions on both my computer and the one with the rip software to no avail. Any assistance would help.
Thanks in advance
Paul

Re: little help please?
You're running the RIP from a server? Is this something new or has it always happened. Have you tried this old time favorite: Try changing the Tome Zone in the Date and Tome Preference Pane and then Change it back. Also trash the Preference yet again and then change it bak to the right Time Zone.
Just you wait a minute…I'm not through…such impatience…now go to the print center and remove the Epson 3000 from the printer list and then add it right back and for good luck restart the computer.
Now try it.
BTW you don't happen to have Spell Checker, Norton Utilities etc.? Now tell the truth…

Re: little help please?
I'm not an expert on printing, so I can't give you an advice on the solution, but I can tell that there is no Illustrator code on that call stack. It looks like something in the Panther code for handling print options.
Did you click the Printer.. button in the Illustrator Print settings to get the Epson-specific options? If so, once you do that Illustrator is out of the picture until you OK that modal dialog, and the Mac OS is completely handling the layout of the dialog and all the interactions in it.
In particular, it looks like the version of the dialog for the Epson printer options has some list of choices, maybe the paper sizes but maybe some other set of choices, and for some reason it is trying to select a choice that is not on the list.

Re: little help please?
Hey guys,
We do have Norton on the machine, but it was put on after this problem started to try and fix it! :) I've since turned it off after seeing it mentioned as a bit of a problem in the forum.
I had a feeling that it might be something to do with the rip rather than illustrator (it's a software Rip running on a computer connected to the network that isn't used, we just call it our server). It crashes when we try to go into the printer dialog to get to the epson-specific options, it doesn't even get that far.
I've removed the printer and added it again a few times and tried different ways of connecting to it, plus it's the only machine out of 4 that is having problems, it's a very annoying problem! I'll try the time zone trick and get back to you.
Thanks for the assistance guys

Re: little help please?
I'm up late again.
I suspect it is either a corrupt user account or a corrupt profile could be your monitor calibration or the RIP software as well maybe even a color profile there is a colorsync utility that might be able to find a corrupt profile and possibly fix it as well. It's in the utility folder in the Applications folder. For Corrupt user account make a new administerative user account and log into it then try your RIP.
