Live Trace & Rhino - Adobe Illustrator Windows

I've been using AI 10 to create simple sketches (closed paths, no fills)which I then export to Rhino. These sketches serve as templates upon which I model. Because Rhino only reads older versions of AI, I've had to save the AI 10 files as version 8 files. So far, so good. However, I'm now thinking of upgrading to Illustrator CS and wonder...if I were to import a scanned pencil sketch and convert it to a vector path via Live Trace, could I save that vector path as a version 8 file in order to export it to Rhino? Thanks in ...

Certainly you can export paths created by Live Trace to AI 8 format.

Since I have no idea what Rhino is (other than an African animal) and what kind of limitations it might have on file content, I don't know if there might be some other manipulations to be performed before saving the file, such as ungrouping.

    Thanks, Teri.

I wasn't sure if the finished Live Trace vector path would be linked somehow to the original scanned raster image (and possibly wreak havoc in Rhino, a 3d modelling program).

    Bnnie,

However, I'm now thinking of upgrading to Illustrator CS and wonder...

I hope you mean CS2: this is the version with the Live Trace you want.
