Loading application - Macromedia Flash Actionscript

Hi there this is my first post here - I have the evaluation version of Flash 2004, with only 5 days to go, so hope there is an easy answer to this question Is there a way of launching an application from an SWF based on a file extension? I mean, given "fred.pdf", get Acrobat launched. As far as I understand it, I could use fscommand("exec",) but this requires me to know where Acrobat is installed on the PC (which I don't know) Is there an easy way to achieve this Regards Julia...

    Hi there

this is my first post here - I have the evaluation version of Flash 2004, with

Is there a way of launching an application from an SWF based on a file
extension? I mean, given "fred.pdf", get Acrobat launched. As far as I
understand it, I could use fscommand("exec",) but this requires me to know
where Acrobat is installed on the PC (which I don't know)

Is there an easy way to achieve this

You can use a URL post as a work around. In this instance, the web browser
will do the work of associating a PDF with Acrobat.

    Hi Julia,

You can do this from a Projector file by using FlashJester JStart

You will not need to locate Acrobat, it will know where to find it.

Think the question was from within swf; assuming that means from within a
browserenvironment, that would mean getURL() is the way to go.

Flashjester seems to be the way to do it as far as I can see. Sorry if I
wasn't clear about exactly what context I was enquiring about - but I am new to
Flash and didn't know the right words to use:)
