Local copy of website files
I set up a website for someone about a year ago and since then they have been
administering the site using Contribute. I've never used Contribute so haven't
seen it in action, but I get the impression that you just make amendments to
pages on the live server - is this correct? The reason I ask is that their
hosting company deleted all files from their webspace because they hadn't
renewed the service (they hadn't been reminded to renew the service, either,
but that's a different story!) When they asked the hosting company to reinstate
the old web pages, the host replied that they do not keep a backup. I'm now
trying to help them get the website back up and running, but I just wanted to
check how Contribute works and if they are likely to have copies of the pages
stored on their local machine. Can anybody help? Kind regards Claire

Re: Local copy of website files
Contribute keeps local working copies of drafts- but not permanent copies
like the Local Site Folder that dreamweaver does afaik.
you can poke around in the folders mentioned in this technote about clearing
"stuck" drafts to see if anything is there

the best bet to recover the content might be to use the wayback machine.

there will probably be several versions of the site on there, by date. grab
the pages and store them locally. You'll have to do some editing to strip
the wayback javascript <base> stuff out.
They don't follow javascript when making the archives- so any rollover
images aren't stored. And js only links aren't followed so some pages might
not be there.
