But isn't there a "brown" key on the keyboard? They should make this easier.

Joe and jonf, if you don't stop teasing, you're going to have to stay after class and clap erasers.
Tim, how well do you understand how color works in Illustrator? You might want to crack the book a bit. Scott's answer is the one you want.

At my age, I can't afford to make the day go faster. I think I just insulted my Italian heritage, but I can't be sure.

Re: Looking for Colors Brown and Blue
Tim, you could try to pick a Pantone spot color from the swatch libraries.

Re: Looking for Colors Brown and Blue
The Pantone will be OK, but of course there are 9 choices of Pantone from the swatch library. I know I can mix them from the color board, so I guess if someone has the formula for the mixture of C, Y, M, & K. Why does Illustrator have red and orange?

Re: Looking for Colors Brown and Blue
Illustrator has brown and blue trash your preferences and relaunch Illustrator if you don't see brown and blue in the swatches then your startup files have been re-saved with them deleted.
And what happen to to your color palette?
Something is wrong here perhaps your monitor profile?
Also by any chance are you colored blind or are you having difficulty lately of discerning colors.
That last part is not intended to be insulting.

Re: Looking for Colors Brown and Blue
Sorry Wade,
I am new (like 7 days old) at this so I am not tracking what you are saying.
When you say trash my color preferences and restart. Is that going to windows -> color (in order to turn off the color palette) then close illustrator and relaunch? (Probably not).
My monitor (under user preferences ) was set to Color LCD.
Lazy, yes, but not color blind.
What do you mean by message #11?

Re: Looking for Colors Brown and Blue
Thank you for your patience. My color palette looks very close to yours.
I am using a PowerBook right now, so that is why LCD.
I found the Library Preferences that you talked about. (thanks again).
Do you want me to delete the whole folder or just the file called Adobe Illustrator Prefernces?

Re: Looking for Colors Brown and Blue
Well if your palette looks like mine then there should be no problem.
You should be able to make blue or brown, isn't that correct?
I don't understand why you say you have no blue or brown available.
Explain.

Re: Looking for Colors Brown and Blue
My color palette looks very close to yours, but not the same. As I go by the colors, the hand indicates the colors I have. On the third row I have Cafe Co Locha, Malt, Mocha, which can work for brown, On the second row, I have Pure Cyan and Night Blue, which would work for blue. I guess I was thinking that as I went by a color swatch, I would see "brown" or "blue".
Can you answer "Do you want me to delete the whole folder or just the file called Adobe Illustrator Prefernces?"

Re: Looking for Colors Brown and Blue
Tim, brown is subjective. Go by what you SEE not by the names. Some Illustrator developer decided a brown looked like Mocha so he/she named it that, that's all. If you need a specific shade of brown, use the sliders int eh color palette and mix your own.
