Looking for Feedback and Comments - Photography

I've already posted these on alt.binaries.photos.original so if you've seen them feel free to skip this. I'm looking for any kind of critique, comments, thoughts. The link is to a series of shots I took last weekend at the Smithsonian and on the Washington Mall. http://home.earthlink.net/~terveiss/photography Thanks in advance, Jason...

Your color images are nice. Very clear and good color, but some of them are
a little busy, not clear on what the actual subject is. As for the black
and white. Are you using true b&w film? Doesn't look like it. Or is it
digital? what are you shooting with?

    Trina,

Thanks for the comments. I was using Kodak T400CN with that set, and use a
Nikon N65. I've tried a couple other b&w films such as Ilford, and just
don't like the extreme contrast in how they come out.

I was wondering if you'd be able to give me an example of what you were
talking about regarding the color images and the trouble with the subject.
If you're talking about the carousel set, I can see what you're saying.

    Thanks,
    Jason

There's two problems with the color images. The ones of the bus and
horses are poorly composed. The others on the page, the landscapes,
might be composed okay, but they don't rise much above the level of
    being snapshots.

As for the black and white, these all have composition problems and
exposure problems. Concerning composition, take for example, the shot
garden05... if I took that shot I'd have made sure the foreground AND
the background were both in focus (and tried to get some more detail
in the grass and clouds. It still would not be a wonderfully artistic
pic, but would be technically better. Concerning exposure, most are
    rather flat.

The b&w's of the sphere's are the most interesting, compositionally,
but the exposure here is off too. These would have benefited by
printing on high contract paper and making sure that the spectral
highlights are white (not grey as they are currently).

To get a handle on exposure in your b&w images, try taking landscape
shots AND producing images that actually show detail the foreground,
background AND in the clouds in the sky.

Oh sorry I wasn't clear on that. Yes I was referring to the carousel images.
Lovely as they were, just a tad too busy for me, but remember, that is
strictly my opinion. What matters in the end is how you feel about them.
