Default Lost Layers Palette; Reset Palette Layout to Default?

I don't know why, but suddenly my layers palette has disappeared. Everything I've tried has not worked. This includes:

    1. Hitting F7: nothing happens, and the "Layers" option under the Window menu does not get checked.
    2. Selecting "Layers" from the Window menu: nothing happens, and the "Layers" option under the Window menu does not get checked.
    3. Changing my monitor resolution to be very high, in case the palette was moved off the visible area of the monitor somehow: even shrunk down as small as possible, the layers palette is not visible.
    4. Quitting and restarting: no difference.

Additionally, I can't find any way to reset the palette layout to a default layout - I'd happily start over, if there were some way to reset the palette layout. I've seen articles for how to do that for Adobe Studio, but I'm using Illustrator 10 and there's no Workspace menu item...

    Any ideas anyone?

    Thanks very much,
