low colour depth on imported bmp's - Macromedia Director Basics

O.K. this is my first post here, so im hoping its an easy one for y'all. ive got a 70 x 50 pixel placeholder, im imorting thumbnails of the same size through lingo, so i dont get the colour depth option when i import, im then using lingo to replace the placeholders with my thumbnail images. with me so far, good stuff. the problem i have is the images are all washed out, like they're in 256 colours rather than 16 bit, how do i change this????...

Have a member linked to a dummy file which is at the desired depth, it may as
well be 32-bit to cope with anything. Then when you use
member(x).fileName=whatever the imported image will retain its colour depth.
