lower pdf file size from existing pdfs made in Corel Draw
I am on a Mac OS 9.2 and because of this I am using Acrobat 5.0.
I work for an engineering company that makes instruction pdfs in Corel Draw, but the file sizes are too large to easily post on the web for fast downloading of the instructions.
Question: How do I lower the file size by half, but still keep the type readable? Going from color- to black & white may not be an option.
Thank you,
AN

Re: lower pdf file size from existing pdfs made in Corel Draw
Wasn't ebook added part way through the Version 5 run. In other words if I am not mistaken ebook was not introduced as an option in Acrobat until e5.0.5. Plain Acrobat 5 did not have it. Best I can remember I had to pay for the upgrade from Version 5 to version e5.x then some bug fixes were installed with the e5.0.5 update. the "e" at the begining indicated ebook.

Re: lower pdf file size from existing pdfs made in Corel Draw
That's odd. When I first purchased Acrobat 5 the version number was acrobat 5. But after a certain update or upgrade it became e5.0.x Explaniation I received that it indicated e-book.

Re: lower pdf file size from existing pdfs made in Corel Draw
Am I missing something here?
Once again---
I am STARTING OUT with a pdf made in CorelDraw-
so, even if I have Acrobat 5.0.5, which I do, and setting distiller to "ebook", Acrobat 5.0.5 distiller will not recognize the CorelDraw pdf.
So, I can't open it to "re-distill" it. Am I doing something wrong in Acrobat, attempting to open the CoreDraw pdf file?
(I am in need of reducing the file size of several pdfs made in CorelDraw that are 1 MB or larger.)
Thank you,

Re: lower pdf file size from existing pdfs made in Corel Draw
Open the Corel Draw PDF in Acro5. File>Save As, in the dropdown menu Format choose Encapsulated Postscript. Take the resulting .ps file and drop it on the Distiller application with the "ebook" setting selected.

Re: lower pdf file size from existing pdfs made in Corel Draw
If you have Acrobat 6.0, it is very simple. Just say "File -> Reduce file size".
