LPD Banner page - SCO

Hi All, I have a LPD printer setup, actually printing to a HP8150 with it's own jetdirect card. I cannot stop the banner from printing. /etc/default/lpd has BANNER=0, i tried lpadmin -o nobanner, i tried lpadmin -b 0, I tried scoadmin printer manager but being a remote printer it does not let me change banners, any suggestions? I have other printers setup printing direct to printers like a Xerox with its own network card also that do not print banners. Ken...

    Default LPD Banner page

    Hi All,

    I have a LPD printer setup, actually printing to a HP8150 with it's own jetdirect card.

    I cannot stop the banner from printing. /etc/default/lpd has BANNER=0, i tried lpadmin -o nobanner, i tried lpadmin -b 0, I tried scoadmin printer manager but being a remote printer it does not let me change banners, any suggestions?

    This is often something you can configure in the print server (the
    embedded network card in the printer).

    For example, with HP JetDirect you can telnet to the printer and issue a
    command banner:0

    Also man printcap.

    If you've used hpnpfg to add the printer then edit
    /var/spool/lp/admins/lp/interfaces/model.orig/<PRINTER NAME> and edit
    the banner line to banner=""

    Jetdirect cards can be telnet'd to, so do that and turnthe banner
    print off (assuming it's on).

    One thing about the script is the lack of consistancy - they go
    some use a 'banner' variable and others use a 'nobanner'.
    Sometimes you need to go line by line through the script to find
    the setting.

    But if this is remote and uses printcap try inserting
    the :sh: to supress printing.
