Default Mac and Windows connectivity questions

    Hi all,

Over the past 13 years, all the computers I owned have been Macs,
although I did use Windows devices at work, so I am somewhat familiar
    with the Windows OS.

The Macs I currently own and have at home are: an iMac G3 400 Mhz, a
    G4 Titanium first generation, and a PowerBook 1400). I currently use a
D-Link router and have all devices ethernet-wired through it. All
machines are running the highest versions of OS 9 allowed by their
    hardware (e.g. the 1400 wont take 9.2.2).

My question is as follows: My next computer purchase is going to be a
Dell laptop, and I'd like to network this new Windows laptop with the
Macs I have at home (listed above). What do I need to know and/or do
in order to get everything (Mac and Windows) networked and sharing the
same DSL modem without an upgrade to OSX? My previous work experiences
with a cross-platform datasharing a decade ago makes we worried that
this wont be easy . . . Is a seamless network possible?

I look forward to hearing people's suggestions, and thanks in advance
    for your help.

Both (Mac and Windows) use TCP/IP out of the box to connect to the
internet via Ethernet and the D-Link router.

The simpliest way to share files is TCP/IP too (FTW or WebSharing)

I am familiar with how to connect a Windows device to the DLink
router, and thus how to have it access the internet from the same DSL
line that the Macs are using. But how would I (once this is done)
exchange files between the Mac and Windows using the TCP/IP approach?

    Thanks in advance
