Mac in Brazil: connection gets dropped immediately after PPP establishment
I'm trying to dial up to the Internet in Brazil with an iBook (OS
10.2.6) using a local ISP. On three (ubbi.com.br, itelefonica.com.br,
yahoo.com.br) out of four (+ ig.com.br) ISPs the connection drops
seconds after the successful PPP establishment. With IG I always get
about 33600 or 288000 connections, and they remain stable for hours.
All three ISPs use local access numbers.
What could be the cause of the connection dropping? I tried lowering the
connection speed to 9600 bps, but connecting at 9600 didn't make a
difference. Could it be that these ISPs *require* some specific
connection procedure? Has anybody been using any of these Brazilian ISPs
with a Mac (or some other non-MS OS)? Unfortunately I don't red
Portugese that well.

Look in Google groups for many complaints about these modems. Buy a real
external modem, and I'll bet your problem disappears.
