Mac OS X Version
Do I have to download the JRUN for Mac and install as J2EE? Or is a straight Mac install forthcoming?
I'm new to the Mac, so if I'm overlooking something please say so.

I haven't heard of any imminent plans for a stand-alone installer for
the Mac. Here are a couple of links that will help--the first outlines
how to do the all-important step of updating JRun to Updater 4 before
doing the ColdFusion install.

Hope that helps,

Re: Mac OS X Version
Uh, thanks. I'm really disappointed that there's not a dummy-proof version I
can use. I spent several hours trying to follow the instructions on those links
(something I'm generally pretty good at) all to no avail. I really shouldn't
be going into the terminal. The worst part is running searches on the MM site
that bring up press releases and articles on how easy it is to run CF on the
Mac and how the integration is unprecedented (apparently for version 6.1)

heard Macromedia say installation on the Mac was *easy*, but it's the
same process you'd go through to deploy on any J2EE server, so it's not
horrendously difficult either; it's just not a one-click install like
with CF standalone on Windows. There is no dummy-proof installer that's
true, so you do have to get used to the terminal.
If you continue to have problems I've been through the install on the
Mac numerous times so feel free to email me directly and I'm sure I can
walk you through it. The instructions on macromedia.com are actually
pretty good, but you HAVE to upgrade JRun to Updater 4 if you want to
minimize your problems with CF 7.
Here's some other links to check:

Re: Mac OS X Version
I believe it was this and a couple of press releases:
http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/logged_in/ccantrell_macosx.html The point is
that I'm just a lowly designer who happens to work in a Java shop. I was tired
of having to slow my system to a crawl with Web Logic, deploying apps just to
view a minor UI change. Tomcat ran better, but creating a new server for each
little project was such a pain in the butt. That's what got me loving CFMX7
and the instance manager. Click it, name it and you're rocking. I guess I was
just spoiled to the awesome experience I had with CFMX7 on the PC. But I do
think that making things as simple on the Mac would help with adoption rates.
Thanks again!

but at this point Macromedia doesn't support the Mac as a production
platform. I'm not sure what the demand is and what the numbers look
like in terms of people using OS X servers in production environments,
but if it gets high enough who knows, maybe they'll look at this at some
point in the future. Kind of a chicken and egg situation I know, but I
suppose as a software company Macromedia's looking at sheer demand for
CF on the platform and running numbers as far as the effort involved vs.
what the return would be ... There's a lot of extra effort I would
guess between offering CF for development on the Mac vs. full support in
production environments.
(To make it very clear, as a Team Macromedia member I'm just a
volunteer; I don't work for Macromedia and I'm not speaking for them in
any official capacity, so these are just my thoughts on this issue.)

Re: Mac OS X Version
We hear you (and many other customers like yourself), loud and clear. I
personally spent a stint in the Jobs NeXTSTEP world (what became OSX) with
Objective-C (pre-Java days, when C++ was a new thing). I personally believe
that Mac OSX and ColdFusion MX 7 are a match made in heaven, but NOT as we
support Mac OSX currently. It''s a good bet I'll be arguing the merits of
full-blown CFMX 7 OSX support in the very, very, VERY near future.... Damon
