Re: Mac to Windows font problem
Has anyone heard of this problem:
From Quark Express 6.0.1 I make a PDF file using Acrobat Distiller 6.0.2. I open it on a Mac in Acrobat 6.0.2 Pro to check everything and it's perfect. However when a PC user opens it using Acrobat 7.0 Standard edition and under, some of the fonts are changed. They do not look corrupt and are totally readable with accurate line spacing and everything. The "correct" font for the document was properly embedded during the distilling process. Is there any explanation or solution for this?
Thanks,
Andrea

Re: Mac to Windows font problem
Andrea,
How did you check to see if the font was properly embedded? Did you
embed as font subsets?

Re: Mac to Windows font problem
Mike,
Thanks for your response, after I posted this message I decided to try and make a PDF/X doc out of the file figuring that Distiller would pick up any font issues using the PDF/X requirements. All went through fine and it looks great on my computer. But the same thing is happening to the PC users when they open the document. All the fonts used in the document are ps fonts some with subsets and some without.
This morning a co-worker came to me after her meeting with a client and showed me a documetn that the client printed from their PC. Not only is there substituted fonts but now individual letters are dropped out of the copy. Would this be caused by the same problem as my font substituting problem?
Thanks, and any help is appreciated!

Re: Mac to Windows font problem
Dropped letters could be part of a font substitution problem, but only
if they were special characters. The standard a-z,A-z taken from the
standard lower level 0-127 standard ascii character set should not be
dropped.
Can you post a pdf for us to look at.
