MacOS 10.2: How to have startup/shutdown sounds? - Mac Applications & Software

I liked having the Vorlon in my machine talk to me when my system rebooted in MacOS 9. I miss him in MacOS X. Is there a way to have those sounds play when I login/logout or restart my system? I converted the System 9 sound files to AIFF and Quicktime can play them. They can be used by the system as alert sounds as well. I liked having the Vorlon in my machine talk to me when my system

I converted the System 9 sound files to AIFF and Quicktime can play
them. They can be used by the system as alert sounds as well. However,
when I specify playing one of them as login item, the quicktime player
starts but doesn't play them. Do I need write an Applescript to run at
startup or login and one to run on shutdown/logout?

Any other ways or is there a haxie to do this? I checked out Xounds,
but they don't do this particular event, just the System 9 Finder events.

Look for "MooSB". That is a control panel that can set sound effects to
various processes, such as disk inserts and programs that start up. It
cannot set a sound effect to startup or shutdown, but you could set an
effect to the Finder when it starts or quits, which is more or less the
    same.

Thanks for this. I installed MooSB and the Sleep/Wake event is good
    enough to have Kosh speak...

If they play when you double-click on them in the Finder,
just put it in as a Login item using the system preferences
    panel.

They _do_ play when you click on them, but as I said in my orginal post,
the QuickTime player just opens but doesn't play them if I specify the
    file as a Login Item.

Someone else sugguested MooSB, which I'm using for a Sleep/Awake mode.
It's good enough. I don't plan on shutting down or restarting all that
often. This is really a UNIX system, afterall.
