Macromedia Contribute 3 Error
Hey,
We have a user getting the following error when opening any Office 2003 app.
Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Macromedia Contribute
3. The Windows Installer cannot continue.
She says it just started a couple of days ago.
Any help with this would be appreciated.

Re: Macromedia Contribute 3 Error
Any response to this error. When I load MS Word I get this error and when I insert the Contribute Disk it still does not clear. Why is contribute effecting my office software? How do we clear this.

Re: Macromedia Contribute 3 Error
I get exactly the same every time I right click in Explorer as well as
launching Office. It's a royal PITA. Now I need to find flashrepair.exe: not
that I should have to Adobe: don't you test your updates? (Or provide answers
in the foums?)

Re: Macromedia Contribute 3 Error
:frown;
I'm having the same problem. I tried uninstalling Flashpaper, because I
thought that was it, but it happened again. I work in the IT department for our
university, and all of our departments use Contribute to update their sites.
Several people have already called, I've tried several things, but nothing
worked. Please help!

Re: Macromedia Contribute 3 Error
Flashrepair.exe did not fix the problem. The only way I know to fix it is to do a fresh reinstall, which is time consuming. Does anybody know a better way. This is really irritating.

Re: Macromedia Contribute 3 Error
If Flashrepair.exe doesnt work has anyone found the cause or a fix? It appears to have happened when Microsoft Pushed out some security updates.

Re: Macromedia Contribute 3 Error
Try using Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 - this has worked for me in the past
with 3rd party software that hooks into Office suite. This is an as -is product
so be sure to read the Readme.txt prior to running the utility.

Re: Macromedia Contribute 3 Error
I cannot beleive that a complete reinstall has to be necessary.
Adobe should really pull their finger out and fix whatever they have broken
with their update.
The lack of Adobe staff responses in this matter is almost criminal especially
seeing as how the 'fix' to this problem listed above is not comprehensive at
all.
The automatic distribution of this update should have been stopped at the
first sign of trouble. This post was started before my software even registered
the update was available.

Adobe should have a fix for this

Re: Macromedia Contribute 3 Error
This error often occurs when the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{4B9535BF
-CC90-4158-AF32-CAF57A8820CA}\InstallSource key is pointing to the wrong
installation source.
Typically this is a cached install path on your local machine, but if the
product was installed via active directory it would be a path to the server
where the product was installed from.
I don't think its Adobe's fault the installation broke. The two quickest ways
to fix this would be either to remove and reinstall or fix the installsource
string in your registry and let contribute repair itself.

Re: Macromedia Contribute 3 Error
I have tried a number of solutions to this problem, including updating C3 to
C3.11 and nothing has worked. In fact, it doesn't seem as though
flashrepair.exe is around anymore. Does anyone have info as to why this might
be?
I'll try an uninstall and reinstall, but I see no reason why this won't happen
again. I don't see how a re-installation will resolve the issue.
Any more thoughts or information on this topic?

Try the solution in this post - run the Contribute updater http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=55&catid=290&threadid=1236 316&highlight_key=y&keyword1=download

Re: Macromedia Contribute 3 Error
I had to install the updater twice, but it seemed to resolve the situation
after the second install. What a pain; I have over 5 dozen clients to whom this
could happen at any time. I hope there is a better fix for it soon.

Re: Macromedia Contribute 3 Error
I had this same error and updated to Contribute Version 3.11 through the Adobe
website last week. Following the prompts, I did not uninstall Version 3.0
before I ran the update.
The update fixed the issue with the right click / Office flashpaper thing, but
when I open Contribute, I am prompted for a serial number for the new update or
to use the software on a trial basis. I have my serial number from my initial
download of Version 3.0, but do not have a serial number for the update.
I called the Adobe Activation hotline, was transferred to Customer Service
(which had no idea how to fix the request for a new serial number for Version
3.11, since that was just an update and shouldn't come with a new serial
number), and then eventually to Tech Support, where I was told that Version 3.x
was no longer supported by Adobe, and that I should post my inquiry here.:mad;
So, should I uninstall everything and run the update again? Any other
suggestions?

Re: Macromedia Contribute 3 Error
I think the serial is the same as your original Contribute install. There is no serial with the update as far as I know.

Re: Macromedia Contribute 3 Error
I didn't think there should be a new serial number either. However, when I am
prompted to activate the update, at first I am prompted for the serial number
of the update. Then, I am prompted for the serial number of the original
version. Contribute does not let me enter the same serial number in both
locations.
