MacSOUP 2.6b2 cannot see my POP server. - Mac Networking

Hi there. I'm having a real annoying problem. MacSOUP 2.6b2 on a Rev c iMac running MacOS 8.6 "cannot get the address of the mail server" - mail.discountdomains.co.nz. But I can connect to other POP servers ok and Eudora can connect to mail.discountdomains.co.nz ok, while at the same time MacSOUP cannot even see it :-( Can anyone else try to connect to mail.discountdomains.co.nz? Sure, you won't be able to do anything, but can you even connect? Can anyone help me? Hi there.

I'm having a real annoying problem. MacSOUP 2.6b2 on a Rev c iMac
running MacOS 8.6 "cannot get the address of the mail server" -
mail.discountdomains.co.nz. But I can connect to other POP servers ok
and Eudora can connect to mail.discountdomains.co.nz ok, while at the
same time MacSOUP cannot even see it :-(

Can anyone else try to connect to mail.discountdomains.co.nz? Sure,
you won't be able to do anything, but can you even connect? Can anyone
    help me?

    Regards,

Perhaps it was a transient problem with the server? I'm using the same
version of MacSOUP and was able to connect just fine. Login failed with
a password error, since I don't have an account there, but I did
    connect.

You were right in a way. Best I can work out the entry for the address
must have been corrupt in MacSOUP's preferences because I just kept
re-typing it and it wasn't until I entered the address in a new
account that the problem went away. Is this a bug in MacSOUP, MacOS or
    random corruption?

I don't know for sure, but I'd guess random corruption.

Odd...on your first message, you had a proper sig-dash. This one has
instead "-- " (dash-dash-space-space) and is not a .sig delimiter.
Even more odd--I've just realized you're using Google rather than
    MacSOUP?

I have to type my sig delimiter manually when using Google. As for why
I'm currently not using MacSOUP for news - I'm currently experiencing
a few troubles with my ISP's news server. Looks like it's time to
return to Newsguy, and for good this time.

I've been very pleased with NewsGuy, but I also hear very good things
about the news.individual.de server, which is free, so you might also
    check them out.
