Maddening printing issue with IDCS2 - Adobe Indesign Macintosh

Here's what I've got: G5, 10.3.9 (fully updated), IDCS2 with 4.0.3 update applied (but behavior has existed prior to the 4.0.3 update). EDOX RIP driving a Canon CLC 3900 is the primary output device. InDesign will not print any doent that has so much as a letter of text in it. If a doent just contains an image, it'll print no problem. InDesign-sent jobs hit the RIP and immediately drop into the 'finished' area. The job log contains an error "No standard color preferences are installed." which has zero hits on Google. If I make a PDF of a doent ...

Default Maddening printing issue with IDCS2

Here's what I've got: G5, 10.3.9 (fully updated), IDCS2 with 4.0.3 update applied (but behavior has existed prior to the 4.0.3 update). EDOX RIP driving a Canon CLC 3900 is the primary output device.

InDesign will not print any doent that has so much as a letter of text in it. If a doent just contains an image, it'll print no problem.
InDesign-sent jobs hit the RIP and immediately drop into the 'finished' area. The job log contains an error "No standard color preferences are installed." which has zero hits on Google.
If I make a PDF of a doent that won't print to the RIP, that *will* print, but the same error about color preferences will be in the job log for it.
All other apps on the machine *can* print to the RIP with no issues whatsoever.
InDesign cannot print to any other printers connected to the machine, either. They leave the desktop printer queue and disappear into the ether.
I see the same behavior in all the user accounts on the machine-- other apps will print, but not InDesign.

I have nuked, reinstalled, and re-updated the entire CS2 suite twice, along with deleting all the prefs.
I have completely nuked the printing system using Printer Setup Repair and set up the printers again.
I have run tail to wipe all the font caches and do other general system maintenance.

There are two other identical G5s in the department running the same build, and they can print anything from InDesign to the RIP or any other printer just fine.

Based on what I've seen, this problem simply must be something to do with InDesign on that machine, since it affects all users but all other apps can print with no problems. I looked in /Library/Preferences and don't see anything that looks like system-wide InDesign prefs that I could nuke. So, short of nuking and reimaging the entire machine, how do I fix this?

    Hi Michael

It sounds like you've tried everything, so you've probably tried this, but just in case....

Although the error is referencing color preferences, everything else about your problem sounds like a corrupt font. I'm not just talking about cleaning the font caches, but replacing all open fonts, especially HelveticaNeue.dfont that InDesign uses as a default.

You say "so much as a letter of text". I'm assuming you have tried different fonts.

    Good Luck!
