Mail Keychain Insanity
Using OS 10.2.6
Mail 1.2.5
Everytime I log on and open up mail I have to enter my Keychain
password. Security isn't an issue for me so I have selected "Always
alow access to this item" under "Access Control" in the Keychain util.
Perhaps I am misunderstanding the function of the keychain settings
but should this mean that any application that wants this information
can have it? It seems that regardless of my settings in the "Access
Control" pane the mail keychain functions the same. Is there anyway I
can avoid having to enter in my keychain pass for mail everytime I
login?
Thanks

Open the Keychain application (Applications/Utilities) and look for a
Settings item in the Edit menu. Fiddle with those settings.

Re: Mail Keychain Insanity
I have never, ever used Keychain, preferring to enter any passwords
required as I go along. However, after updating to 10.2.6, I'm getting
the message ~'Keychain wants access to <this app>. Please enter your Keychain
password.' in numerous places. Since I don't have a Keychain password, I
tried my account password, but the system claims it's invalid. I spent
quite a long time trying to figure out how to get out of the Network
System preference because this silly dialog kept re-popping up as soon as
I'd dismiss it in a seemingly infinite loop.
I'm going to try the Keychain FirstAid. If that doesn't work I'll
reinstall the 10.2.6 Combo Updater.
So this appears to me to be a system issue. I'm not doing _anything_ funky
with my OS X install so I can only conclude the problem is with Apple's
software. [gripe on] Come on, Apple! I have better things to do than screw
around fixing my system when the sysem update was supposed to be a piece
of cake. [gripe off]

I tried Keychain First Aid. It found the problem that the keychain
password didn't agree with the login password and recommended I fix it.
Okay, so I go to repair, and guess what? Keychain wants me to input the
corrupted password, which if I had it I wouldn't be using the repair utility!
So I deleted the keychain file from my home directory Library and deleted
the keychain plist from my home prefs folder and restarted. All is back to
normal. Fortunately I don't use Keychain or I'd have lost all the entries
in it.
C'mon Apple, get with it!
