I have been having a problem with explorer.exe and network
drive mappings
I am using Windows XP Pro SP1
Symptoms:
1. Some times I can not see network drive letter in
Explorer windows
2. In the address field I can type the drive letter
then it shows the contents of that drive.
3. If I try to do any file modifications on that
drive through the explorer window and it has a long file
name I get an error about "The drive that this file or
folder is stored on does not allow long file names, or
names containing blanks or any of the following
characters: \/:,;*?"<>|" If I copy a file with a long file
name to the drive it truncates the name.
4. Drive is visible and works fine in command shell
or from any other application (MS Word, Excel)
5. This problem is inconsistent but happens
frequently
6. To resolve the problem I do an end - task to
explorer.exe then execute explorer.exe from the run.
