Marquee tool weirdness - FW MX

Whenever I try to use the rectangular marquee tool in Fireworks MX, I draw out the rectangle, and it almost immediately turns into an oval or a round-cornered rectangle. I can't get 90 degree corners. And I am definitely using the rectangular marquee.

Is there a setting somewhere for correcting this?

Sounds like the edge setting is feathered. Try reducing the feathering to a
low number or choosing anti-aliased or hard edge. This is set in the
Properties Bar when the Marquee Tool has been selected.
Alternatively, if you really want to use a high feathering to the edge of
your marquee, don't worry about what the actual marquee shape looks like.
