    Default Master Pages

In Quark, when I apply a new master to a page, it takes on all the attributes of that new master, including the specified first baseline amount and new margins of the text box on the new master. I'm having a problem with InDesign in this respect: When I apply a new master to the page, it seems to just leave the text box from the previously applied master page. I end up having to do a lot of tedious steps: 1. delete the master text box, 2. reapply the new master page, 3. relink the text. This gets really tedious in a 400 page book. I must be missing something! Can someone tell me where I am going wrong?
    Thanks!

    Default Re: Master Pages

When it comes to text box attributes themselves there is no relation to them and the master page in ID, as there is in Quark (admittedly very disappointing for someone coming from Quark).

However, margins are related to master pages, so if you click on the master page and then change the margins on the master page it will ripple through to all pages the master pages are applied to. This means that all text boxes that are sized according to the margins will resize to fit the margins. This will only work if you have Layout>Layout Adjustment>Enable Layout Adjustment checked.

As a long-time Quark user I have to say that the whole master page issue is one for which I have really found an as-pleasing workflow in ID as in Quark and my frustrations on long documents would mirror those of Melanie. I do not think you are 'going wrong' Melanie, it just works very differently and IHMO less well than the much-maligned Quark.
