"Master Photographer"
Working towards a "Master Photographer". My mentor says I am already
there book wise, but I just need to develope some work to prove it.
Does anyone have any advise?
Now I don't belong to the PPA so I can't be certified as a "Master"
photographer, but I am working toward all the same information
abilities as PPA members have.
I am only 32 and have been taking pictures since I was 5, so I have
been practicing for a long time with Pro model cameras.

Re: "Master Photographer"
Well, a Master requires 25 points from print competition from PPA.
It's not a question of knowledge, it's a question of hanging prints at
National.

Re: "Master Photographer"
You've got a point there. Back when it was my livelihood, I was one
of the first three in the State of WA to become Certified by PPA...also
earned my Associate Fellow of Photography. Was 8 o r9 merits shy of
getting my Craftsman from PPA.
Customers didn't care for the most part, just other photographers
that were trying to impress each other.

Re: "Master Photographer"
Steve,
Thanks for your reply. I don't much care about the title or the
recognition it comes with. I just want to be a better photographer.
Photography has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
I never really took any classes. Everything I know, I picked up from
experience, and my father who was a professional photographer. My
mentor who is a life long family friend was a photography instructor
at RIT, and she has been teaching me as well.
My main reason for wanting to become a "Master Photographer" is so
that I can gain more knowledge as well as possibly be able to educate
others. Like I said, the title doesn't really matter to me, I just
want the knowledge that goes along with it. I know most people say it
is all about showing your work, but the PPA also requires you to take
courses and workshops as well. Most of the courses and workshops I
have informally already done through life experience. I guess what I
am looking to do is learn what I can, and as much as I can. Can anyone
suggest books, or magazines to read? Steve, You mention you are a
"Master Photographer" as well. What types of settings do you
photograph? I have done everything from nature, to weddings. When
putting together my portfolio I found a great majority of the work is
nature related. What types of things do you like to shoot? I am really
looking for ideas on subjects to shoot that might be interesting to
look at. Different subjects to experiment with.
