Masterpage question
When I unlock a master page item, why does it jump above all the items that are underneath it, is there any way around this?

The question was "why"...
Because that's the way it is in InDesign:
All master page objects of a given layer lie behind all document page objects of that same layer. By "unlocking" a master page object you create a new document page object which therefore comes to rest at the top of that layer.
