Default max/plasma lights... always imports as #point?

i've been working on a project, modeling in plasma. i've created a spot light.
when i import the w3d file exported from plasma, the light type is always
#point. i've tried setting the type in plasma to target spot, free spot, and
directional, but it is always a point in director. help?
