With the emergence of little orange images (buttons) labeled as RSS, Atom,
or XML we see many variations in width. Some are narrow in width and others
broader in width. Look for example of how Yahoo displays their 'button' [1]
(at the bottom of the left column) which is much wider than other
implementations that can be observed.

I wonder if there is a common page column width we can use as a guideline to
maximize the width of images when designing our own buttons of this type?
This would be a no brainer of the images were only intended for use on one's
own site but they are not. The buttons are intended to be given away to
others to use on other sites and the image must be sized small enough to fit
into their left or right columns but wide enough to maximize the verbiage of
the label that we want to use.

I'm wondering how to wide to go?
