mazes, objects and movement control - Macromedia Director 3D

What advice can people share about setting up a 3D maze, inserting objects into that maze and controlling movement. Is it valid to use an image of the maze and use getPixel to locate objects in the image map to place in the 3D scene? Any help or director to sites that have information on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....

    Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the link. Could you give an explanation about how you built
the maze? Is it Lingo generated? I'd be interested if you used a 2D
image as a startin point for creating the Maze. And would be good to
know how you place objects in the maze. Lastly, how are you controlling
    collision detection?

Thanks very much for anything you can offer.

    Hi,

The maze is made & textured in 3dsmax and exported in W3D, schockwaveformat
(there are other 3d programs that can do this: Maya, truespace, lightwave etc.
I only used Max ), after I imported the W3D in director, I made the movement
and collision detection with lingo, I didn't start from a 2D image.
the movement: I made a box and attached the camera on it, then on every
arrow-key-press I first check with modelsUnderRay (for the collision-detection)
the distance from the camera to the wall, and if it's > 10 units I move the box
a few units front / back / left....
Here are some very useful tutorials...

    Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your information and link.

The reason I asked if you started with a 2D image was because I thought it may be a
good way to place objects in a scene in a simple way, rather than knowing precise
    co-ordinates.

I appreciate the help your offered.
