Measure or Calculate Area of a polygon
Anyone know HOW TO CALCULATE AREA of a POLYGON?
I copied an aerial photograph (bitmap) into Illustrator 10. I know the scale of my photograph (in my case, 1 inch = 100 meters). I drew some odd shaped polygons around several features (in my case, parking lots and buildings).
I created one layer for parking lot outlines, one layer for building outlines, and of course another for the underlying aerial photo. Then I filled in each outline with a different color.
I wanted to determine the total area for the two separate features (parking lots, buildings). The "INFO" tool in Illustrator provides the the width and height, BUT SEEMS TO ASSUME THAT ALL MY POLYGONS ARE SQUARE! So I can't use the X and Y coordinates (provided in the INFO tool) to determine the area because it just gives me the outermost width and height dimensions.
So, is there a feature in Illustrator 10 that will display the area of a weirdly-shaped polygon? Whether that be in inches or pixels? (I figure that if it's in pixels, I can convert to inches somehow.)
Thanks!
Andrew

bleed, trim area and type area, please advise?
Yes, you are correct. The bleed would be easier to figure out just by taking the extra area, 10mm (235-225=10, 180-170=10) and dividing it by two... -

Re: Measure or Calculate Area of a polygon
Make a copy of the polygon and recreate it using a rectangle for the bulk and triangles for the rest. Total the areas for the triangles (1/2 base x height) and the rectangle's area.
